Disease Spotlight Series

Aquatic animal diseases are among the most significant challenges affecting aquaculture production, animal welfare, and aquatic system management. Many disease outbreaks begin with subtle changes in behaviour or appearance that can easily be overlooked until the problem has already spread through a system. Developing the ability to recognise early warning signs and understand the organisms responsible is essential for effective disease prevention and health management.

The Disease Spotlight series explores important pathogens and health conditions affecting aquatic species, providing concise overviews of the causative agent, key clinical signs, transmission pathways, risk factors, and practical approaches to prevention and control.

These posts are designed to support aquaculture farmers, breeders, aquarists, researchers, and aquatic animal health professionals in strengthening disease recognition and improving preventative health strategies in aquatic systems.

If you are experiencing disease challenges in your aquaculture system or would like guidance on biosecurity, disease prevention, or treatment interventions, please contact Aquaglobal Veterinary Consulting for professional aquatic veterinary support.
